About Open Data
Open data is about increased transparency and about sharing the information we hold with the wider community in order to allow them to use the information as they see fit. To achieve this aim, the data must be in open, machine readable formats that can be easily reused.
We’ve created an Open Data website to help:
- Make data we hold available online (unless private or sensitive)
- Encourage residents, businesses and other interested parties to interrogate the data and develop applications, hacks and widgets
- Increase transparency and accountability
We have decided that the most important thing is getting data online as quickly as possible. This means that these pages are in continued development and we are encouraging residents to let us know what can be improved and, most importantly, what other data you would like to see made available. Comments and suggestions should be made to onlineservices@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk
Using the data
The usage of the data is subject to our licence and code of conduct. If you do use any of the data provided by Cheshire West and Chester Council in apps, widgets, hacks or mashups, then please let us know so we can link to it and share it with others.
Current Datasets
To support our commitment to transparency, involvement and innovation we will work towards making all public data (that is not sensitive or personal) freely available in a variety of formats. We have started by opening up some of our existing datasets and making them freely available in our Opendata store.
Requesting Datasets
While we are committed to publishing as much open data information as possible, some data takes considerable time and expense to make available. By identifying the datasets users would find the most interesting, we can prioritise our work to have them released. Please use the online form to request or suggest a dataset for inclusion in the Open Data project.
